ACWA lists Taweelah RO in commercial operation from Q1 2024 at 200 MIGD. Its marine appendices preserve proposed intake and outfall layouts plus 27.8 m3/s intake and 17.3 m3/s discharge assumptions used during bid-stage modelling. They do not disclose the final as-built route.

What changed

ACWA's current project profile lists 200 MIGD, a USD 874 million cost, a 30-year WPA and Q1 2024 commercial operations. Its first-half 2023 release records an earlier Group 2 certificate at 183 MIGD. The HR Wallingford appendix says the proposed layouts came from ACWA during bid-stage studies and gives the modelled intake and discharge flows. These sources confirm an operating plant and a marine design trail, but not final as-built geometry, installation quantities, contractor allocation or accepted performance.

Why it matters

The plant has moved beyond construction into long-term marine asset management. Intake reliability, brine recirculation, diffuser condition, receiving-water compliance and maintenance access now matter more than the original EPC schedule. Contractors still need current owner geometry and condition data before pricing any inspection, repair or modification.

The operating status is firm, and the HR Wallingford appendix is specific enough to confirm a designed intake and outfall system. Its own wording calls the layouts proposed and bid-stage. Do not use those figures as final pipe lengths, installation quantities or accepted geometry. As-built drawings, completion surveys, hydraulic tests, diffuser acceptance and current plume monitoring are still absent from the public material.
