Águas do Algarve operates the multimunicipal water-supply and wastewater system serving all 16 Algarve municipalities under a state concession running from 2019 to 2048. It is the owner and contracting authority for the new seawater desalination plant, two offshore intake structures, intake pipelines, 2.13-kilometre brine outfall, coastal pumping station and raw-water connection. ACE Água para o Algarve holds the design-build package and a three-year operating period after provisional acceptance; the Portuguese Environment Agency remains the environmental authority.
