Role in marine infrastructure
The Port of San Francisco is a City and County of San Francisco department managing 7.5 miles of waterfront held under California's public trust. A five-member Port Commission, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Board of Supervisors, develops, leases, administers, manages and maintains the waterfront. The Port's engineering division provides design, inspection, project and construction management, contracting, permitting and code review, while its maintenance division covers piers, cargo terminals, ferry landings, fishing harbours, parks, utilities and buildings. The current cargo inventory lists Pier 80 as a 69-acre break-bulk terminal with three berths at 40 feet MLLW, 2,700 feet of berth frontage, a 1,000-pound-per-square-foot wharf design load and on-dock rail. Pasha Automotive Services operates the vehicle terminal; the Port remains the asset owner and public client for Contract 2871, the mooring, fender and bollard renewal awarded to Manson Construction Co.
