SEAWAY has launched; delivery remains unconfirmed
Boskalis' 31,000 m³ TSHD SEAWAY was christened and launched at Royal IHC on 3 October 2025. The latest reviewed owner update, dated 5 March 2026, still described the vessel as under construction and linked capital commitments to its completion. The original mid-2026 service expectation has not been followed by a reviewed owner or shipyard delivery announcement as of 16 July.
What changed
Boskalis' 5 March 2026 annual-results release is the latest reviewed owner status and calls SEAWAY a new 31,000 m³ TSHD still under construction at IHC's Krimpen yard. It says capital commitments at year-end 2025 related predominantly to completion of SEAWAY, Windpiper, and four Smit Lamnalco vessels, without allocating a vessel-specific value. Royal IHC's 3 October 2025 release confirms naming and launch and places final outfitting and extensive testing afterward. The 2023 Boskalis order and Royal IHC letter of intent establish the custom-build route and original mid-2026 expectation. No cited source confirms handover, service entry, or first deployment as of 16 July 2026.
Why it matters
SEAWAY's market significance depends on what happens after launch. The order established future capacity and the launch confirmed a physical hull milestone, but trials, acceptance and a named deployment are what turn the vessel into usable 31,000 m³ capacity. Shipyards, class, suppliers, training teams, fuel providers, Boskalis and competitors all depend on those later milestones.

SEAWAY is a confirmed launched newbuild in the final delivery chain, but the public evidence does not establish it as an operating asset. Royal IHC's launch release gives the 178-by-38-metre dimensions, 31,000 m³ hopper, diesel-electric and Azipods design, methanol preparation, and post-launch outfitting and testing. Boskalis' March 2026 results provide the later status and still describe construction as ongoing. Delivery, class acceptance, fleet entry, first deployment, and achieved fuel or production performance remain open. The gap is not described as a formal delay; a dated owner or shipyard delivery update is missing.
