Itajaí-Mirim plan widens the channel and adds two flood-control gates
Municipality of Itajaí; June 2026 programme discussion, not construction evidence
Santa Catarina's P508221 programme defines widening and deepening of the rectified Itajaí-Mirim channel, desilting part of the old river and two flood-control gates. P508221 is Active and Board Approved in the World Bank portfolio; the April 2026 procurement plan omits the main river works package.
What changed
The World Bank project API establishes Active and Board Approved status, the USD 119.2 million current IBRD commitment and the 31 August 2033 financial closing date. The release establishes the high-level physical scope. The state PEPI defines the river reaches, channel widening, desilting and two gates. The April procurement plan does not list the main works package. Itajaí's May technical-services contract covers design preparation for a natural-river reach, while its 18 June meeting records programme discussion with state Civil Defense and the World Bank. Neither municipal record is P508221 construction mobilisation.
Why it matters
The PEPI fixes the geography before the commercial package is public. Rectified-channel work runs from KM 12 to the Itajaí-Açu mouth, while old-river work runs from Itaipava to the channel confluence. The sediment route, gate split, package value and acceptance basis remain open.
Decision read
What remains open
This is an approved waterworks programme, not an active construction claim. Procurement becomes actionable when an updated STEP plan or state tender joins the river reach, design surface, sediment classification, gate civils, environmental conditions and bid timetable. Port-access dredging in the neighboring Itajaí-Açu must remain a separate record.
