Sabine-Neches awards 44-foot work while full-depth packages remain outstanding
A USD 239 million Callan Marine contract will remove about 20 million cubic yards, add two anchorage basins, and deliver 44 feet of usable draft from Taylor Bayou to Port Arthur and Beaumont by April 2028. The full programme still depends on Great Lakes' offshore Contract 6 and later inland Contracts 7, 8, and 9 before 48/50-foot access can be treated as accepted.
What changed
SNND's 14 April 2026 release confirms the Callan award, USD 239 million value, approximately 20 million cubic yards, two anchorage basins, 44-foot usable-draft boundary, early-June 2026 start target, and 15 April 2028 completion deadline. SNND's November 2025 schedule separates the first four-foot cut from the second four-foot cut and leaves Contracts 7, 8, and 9 after Contract 6. USACE and Department of Defense records separately define the overall 48/50-foot programme and Great Lakes' offshore Contract 6.
Why it matters
Sabine-Neches is an active liquid-bulk, LNG, petrochemical, energy, and military corridor. The current schedule compresses major federal and non-federal dredging packages into overlapping windows. Owners, contractors, terminals, and vessel planners need to distinguish physical dredging, anchorage capacity, reach-level hydrography, and formally usable draft rather than rely on one programme percentage or completion claim.

The current award creates two different navigation outcomes. Great Lakes is responsible for the offshore entrance work, while Callan's inland package is intended to deliver about 20 million cubic yards of excavation, two anchorages and a 44-foot usable route through the major terminals by April 2028. The authorized 48-foot inland channel still depends on Contracts 7 through 9, hydrographic acceptance and formal navigation availability. Until those packages are awarded and completed, 44 feet is the relevant contracted inland milestone.
