Role in marine infrastructure
Tonga's Ministry of Infrastructure carries the government-side delivery role for climate-resilient transport works. Its Marine and Ports Division is the public-sector lead for sea transport in the national infrastructure framework. At Nafanua Port, the ministry is the implementing and procuring agency for the integrated breakwater, small-boat berth and passenger-terminal package awarded to China Jiangsu International under a USD 4,803,074.31 contract signed on 6 March 2026. At Queen Salote International Wharf it acted with Ports Authority Tonga as the government client, while the port authority retained the operating interface.
