Kanaaldok B2's 362-metre quay is under construction through early 2027, while the wider export chain still carries separate terminal-investment, Phase 1b pipeline, binding quality-interface, marine-loading, carrier and storage gates. Fluxys c-grid's 2026 plan ties the terminal connection to signed contracts and technical-economic justification and references a mid-2029 operational horizon in its current planning language.

What changed

Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Herbosch-Kiere place the EUR 22 million, 362-metre quay package in execution from September 2025 to early March 2027, with piling, concrete, demolition and dredging on separate work windows. The owner's April 2025 explanation separates capture, the pipeline backbone, phased 2.5-to-10-Mtpa terminal and a quay intended for two seagoing vessels at once. CINEA establishes the EUR 144.6 million common-infrastructure grant and June 2027 action frame. Fluxys confirms the first port pipeline was under construction when c-grid Antwerp received its 20-year operator appointment. The 2026 network plan makes the terminal connection a conditional Phase 1b package and contains compressed wording referencing a mid-2029 operational horizon; it is not a firm commissioning commitment. The May 2026 vapor-quality specification is non-binding and is not evidence of terminal, ship, liquid-product or storage acceptance.

Why it matters

The schedule gap changes supplier timing and project risk. A completed quay can wait for a terminal investment decision, customer contracts, pipeline connection, compatible CO2 quality, ship-loading acceptance, available carriers and receiving storage. Tracking only the visible civil works would overstate both near-term export readiness and the addressable package that is actually committed.

What remains open

The quay and export system are now running on different clocks. Marine civil work is real and visible, but service still depends on independently controlled packages. Owners and suppliers should track quay acceptance, terminal final investment decision, customer contracts, Phase 1b connection, binding product-quality and custody-transfer requirements, loading-system commissioning, carrier nomination and receiving-storage availability separately. The record belongs in international marine works coverage because port geometry, dredging, mooring and ship transfer are necessary delivery conditions, but none alone proves an operating CCS chain.
