Port Engineering
Chennai 19A has a design consultant, not a works contractor
IIT Madras records an ongoing Chennai Port Authority assignment to audit Berth 19A at North Quay and prepare detailed engineering for a new structure. The INR 5.074 million consultancy runs from 30 December 2024 to 31 December 2027. It establishes the engineering gate, not a berth-construction award.
A named owner-side engineering package is now visible
IIT Madras lists project IC24251239CPCPTXNTPHOC, principal investigator Murali K, Chennai Port Authority as agency, the technical-audit and detailed-engineering title, a 30 December 2024 start, 31 December 2027 close and INR 50.74 lakh value. Basic Port Statistics 2024-25 from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways adds the 19A North Quay identity, 198-metre length, 8.5-metre draft and passenger, general-cargo and liquid-bulk operating context. The Ministry's Chennai Port Authority annual-report page is current owner-publication context only. Two unreachable, redundant Chennai Port Authority PDF routes were retired on 10 August 2026. The controlling records do not disclose the construction design, procurement route, works contractor, price or mobilisation.
Design evidence narrows the next procurement search
The ledger gives the project a verifiable consultant, reference number and design window before a public works package is visible. Suppliers should watch for the structural concept, tender drawings, berth-operating constraints and construction procurement rather than treating the consultancy close date or value as the works programme or budget.
Evidence conclusion
Construction status remains unverified
Berth 19A remains in technical audit and detailed engineering. The existing North Quay berth is listed at 198 metres with an 8.5-metre scheduled depth and general/liquid-bulk use. The next commercially meaningful evidence is a Chennai Port Authority works notice or contract that defines demolition, piling, deck, equipment, utilities, berth-pocket and operating-interface scope. No construction contractor or subcontractor can yet be stated from primary records.
Outstanding evidence
- Technical-audit outcome and new-structure design basis
- Issued-for-tender drawings and construction quantities
- Works tender, bidder qualification and package split
- Awarded contractor, accepted price and notice to proceed
- Live-dock phasing, berth availability and cargo-interface controls
- Piling, deck, fenders, bollards, utilities and dredging scope
- Testing, hydrography, navigation release and handover
