Breakwater Award
Dana Point's USD 4.89m breakwater award awaits mobilisation
Curtin Maritime Corp holds the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contract for Dana Point Harbor breakwater repair, approximately 45,000 yd3 of access dredging and nearshore sediment placement. USAspending reports USD 4,889,212.38 for a period ending 8 January 2027. The award is commercially firm, but notice to proceed, dredging mobilisation, armour delivery, actual placed quantities and acceptance remain absent from the public evidence reviewed.
The award establishes a new commercial baseline
USAspending controls W912PL26CA003, Curtin Maritime, the USD 4.889 million award, contract dates and 45,000 yd3 description. USACE controls the federal navigation boundary, final environmental decision and earlier forecast. Keep forecast range and quantities separate from the award and later measured work. No cited source confirms mobilisation, subawards, actual quantities, progress or acceptance. The aerial visual shows the actual harbour and breakwaters, not 2026 field progress.
Dredging is an access package and a placement obligation
USACE had forecast a USD 5 million to USD 10 million opportunity with about 3,500 tons of armour work. The March 2026 award is lower and must control the commercial baseline. Environmental clearance and contract signature still leave execution open. Access dredging, nearshore placement and armour repair each need dated plant, quantity, survey and acceptance evidence before the package moves into delivery.
Evidence conclusion
Three workfronts need one accepted sequence
The 45,000 yd3 dredging quantity creates access to the breakwater workfront and sends sediment to a nearshore placement area off the harbour entrance near Doheny State Beach. That linkage brings hydrographic control, navigation coordination, sediment suitability, beach response and environmental monitoring into the armour-repair sequence. No USAspending subawards currently identify lower-tier dredging, stone, survey or monitoring firms.
Outstanding evidence
- Notice to proceed and Curtin marine-plant mobilisation
- Actual dredged and nearshore-placed quantities
- Armour source, grading and placed tonnage
- Navigation and environmental monitoring records
- As-built profile, final value and USACE acceptance
