Khalifa Port is moving EGA from Capesize access to a Newcastlemax berth system

Published scope and current milestone

EGA's 2017 and 2019 records establish the original facilities agreement, completed approach-channel works, 16.5-to-18.5-metre deepening, 250-to-280-metre widening and first fully laden Capesize call. AD Ports' prospectus and EGA's current operations page establish the long-term marine-service and conveyor-linked operating baseline. The 29 June 2026 releases define the separate AED 84 million Newcastlemax programme, planned August 2028 completion and approximately 8 million tonnes of annual handling. A current CHEC technical manager identifies the exact AED 84 million EPC from November 2025; a second current CHEC manager describes the matching live-berth scope from October 2025. The profiles support reported contractor and execution attribution but do not disclose the owner award, dredging subcontract, unloader supplier, accepted quantities or Newcastlemax readiness.

Port delivery and operating implications

This is not a greenfield berth announcement. It is a tenant-backed vessel-class and cargo-system upgrade built on a long-term facilities agreement, an operating 18.5-metre approach and a five-kilometre conveyor link to Al Taweelah. The CHEC profiles move the delivery chain beyond an unnamed programme: one identifies the exact AED 84 million EPC and another describes active capping-beam, piling, crane-rail, fender, bollard and utility work. They remain reported evidence, not an owner award notice or proof that dredging and acceptance are complete.
