The Nui and Niutao boat harbours are complete. Both include channel and shore-side work, but the completion notices do not report channel condition, navigation-aid serviceability, facility availability or workboat reliability after handover.

Published scope and current milestone

AIFFP and the Australian Government confirmed on 5 February 2026 that the Nui and Niutao harbour project was complete. The AIFFP investment record defines navigation-channel upgrades, boat ramps, passenger terminals, cargo sheds, shoreline reclamation, solar lighting, guard rails, signage, accessibility, and adaptation to sea-level rise, cyclones, coastal erosion, and longshore-sediment change. ADB's project record confirms wider outer-island harbour, dredging, capacity-building, and transport-planning outputs and remains administratively active. Hall Pacific identifies the Niutao sea-access channel and basin excavation, approach jetty, wharf, ramp, and passenger terminal. ADB separately confirms Nui's June 2024 handover. These sources support completion of the two named assets while leaving wider programme close-out and operating performance as separate questions.

Coastal delivery and performance implications

Routine access on Nui and Niutao depends on reef channels staying open, navigation aids working and ramps, wharves and solar systems being maintained. Weather and tides still limit small-boat transfers, so operating data will show how often the new facilities provide safe access.

Construction is complete for the two named harbours. The next reports need to cover channel and basin surveys, navigation-aid condition, facility downtime, maintenance work and safe transfer performance in poor weather. ADB's wider programme also remains open until formal close-out.
