Role in marine infrastructure

Renamed from the Department of Transport on 1 July 2025, the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure is Western Australia's lead agency for integrated transport services and major infrastructure. Its Maritime division handles marine safety compliance, investigations and Harbour Master operations in Shipping and Pilotage ports. It also licenses pilots, jetties and moorings; manages aids to navigation and notices to mariners; removes wrecks; and leads marine emergency and oil-pollution response. Its asset and technical remit covers public harbours, marinas and jetties, coastal engineering, tide and wave data, and cartography. The department maintains navigable channels at key marine facilities and carries out annual sand bypassing at Mandurah and Dawesville. Current project records identify it as client for four jetty and boating-infrastructure projects, with construction assigned to Advanteering Civil Engineers, Jetty and Marine Constructions, or Global Trade Sales under the relevant contracts. The department's published project role is client-side planning, procurement, navigation control and acceptance, while the cited contracts assign construction to the named contractors.
