Tuvalu Nui and Niutao harbour handover evidence

Nui and Niutao now have public completion and handover evidence for two named climate-resilient boat-harbour assets. That closes a construction question but opens a more demanding service question: whether reef access, aids to navigation, ramps, wharves, passenger and cargo facilities, maintenance systems, and workboat transfers remain available through routine use and severe weather. The current public record supports handover, not a long-term reliability or resilience conclusion.

Records reviewed through 15 July 2026 document the February completion announcement for Nui and Niutao, the Niutao opening and the June 2024 Nui handover. They also identify the marine and landside assets and ADB's operation-and-maintenance capacity objective. Missing from the public file are current as-built surveys, service logs, weather cancellations, aid uptime, maintenance response, post-storm asset condition and independently measured user outcomes.
