Dredging Strategy
Cleveland's 2026 dredging award has two production clocks and one constrained sediment system
Cleveland's 9 April USD 11.7 million DMYLES award defines approximately 250,000 cubic yards and two planned 2026 windows, but the current evidence stops at award. Delivery depends on proving each campaign and its material route while the Port extends SPMF capacity, USACE evaluates short-term alternatives, and CHEERS remains in design and permitting.
What changed
USACE confirms the 9 April 2026 award, planned quantities and windows but reports no 2026 mobilisation or first-window result. Its January scoping record evaluates placement alternatives rather than approving a route. The October 2025 factsheet establishes the annual dredging and channel baseline; Port records establish the 2024 routing split, the 2025 SPMF extension award, and CHEERS' future status. Historical photographs on this page show Cleveland's dredging system, not DMYLES' 2026 mobilisation.
Why it matters
Annual maintenance is not one quantity or one completion date. Upper-river shoaling creates a spring and fall production rhythm; every dredged cubic yard also consumes, moves through, or avoids constrained placement capacity. Treating the planned May-June window as completed would hide the operating question, while treating CHEERS as current capacity would hide the infrastructure gap.
Decision read
What remains open
The package remains at award until an accountable source confirms plant mobilisation, measured first-window production and its placement split. The completed 2025 DMYLES campaign, the 2026 contract, SPMF capacity through 2029 and the longer-term CHEERS programme each need their own timeline. The 2026 record closes against accepted hydrography and channel condition, not the calendar alone.
