Fehmarnbelt's third immersion extends the repeat cycle
FLC connected Fehmarnbelt's third 217-metre, more-than-73,500-tonne standard element on 1 August after a five-tug tow and Friday immersion. Three of 89 elements are now in place. The owner has not published a new installed-length total, accepted protection quantity, mature series rate or replacement opening date.
Published scope and current milestone
Femern's 2 August update confirms the third element, Thursday-evening tow-out, Friday immersion, Saturday connection, five tugboats, 217-metre length, more-than-73,500-tonne weight and current stone-and-gravel protection. It names FLC as the main contractor and reports three of 89 elements in place, but gives no new installed-length total or accepted protection quantity. Femern's 29 June update reported more than 500 metres after the second element. Its 4 and 7 May updates document the first tow and connection. The 17 May statement sets out road-first and rail-later opening; the January update and April factsheet retain the schedule and physical-scope boundaries.
Port delivery and operating implications
The third operation starts to expose cadence rather than a single successful repeat. Even so, installation does not by itself establish a protected and accepted tunnel reach. Owners evaluating immersed crossings need the tow-to-joint cycle, survey and protection evidence, while users still need separate road and railway opening dates tied to completed civil and systems testing.

Handover, readiness and service evidence
Three successful immersions show that Fehmarnbelt has entered an early repeat cycle, but every element still needs accepted bedding, alignment, joint closure, backfill and protection. Production of special elements and work toward German waters add different constraints. Civil continuity must then pass into power, ventilation, fire, traffic and railway-system testing. A dated road opening would not by itself establish railway service or full fixed-link completion.
