DP World reports Ndayane's major dredging works complete 13 months ahead of schedule: a 5-kilometre channel dredged to 20 metres, a 600-metre turning basin and an 875-metre berth pocket. More than 95% of the material was rock and the hardest cited formations exceeded 100 MPa, yet the work was completed without blasting. The critical path now runs through dredging acceptance, reclaimed-ground release, quay and terminal delivery, harbour services and operating trials ahead of the 2028 target.

Published scope and current milestone

DP World's 27 July 2026 completion release reports that dredging finished 13 months ahead of schedule and gives a 20-metre channel, 600-metre turning basin, 875-metre berth pocket, greater-than-95% rock share, greater-than-100 MPa maximum cited strength and a no-blasting method. The developer's current Senegal page separately lists an 18-metre draft, 840-metre quay and 1.2 million TEU designed capacity; the dredged depth and advertised operating draft are different measures. Jan De Nul reports approximately 10 million cubic metres of dredging and an 89-hectare reclamation package. No cited source establishes separate hydrographic acceptance, formation release, quay handover, terminal commissioning or commercial service.

Port delivery and operating implications

Early excavation completion removes one of the clearest geotechnical and programme risks in this greenfield port. It also changes what should be measured next. Dredger production is no longer the leading indicator; accepted hydrography, reclaimed-platform settlement, quay progress, berth systems, equipment, utilities, terminal software, navigation services, security and border controls now govern readiness. Treating the dredging milestone as port completion would obscure the packages that turn marine geometry into a working terminal.

Handover, readiness and service evidence

The reported dredging completion is a material advance, not a whole-port completion claim. The most important near-term evidence is now the final geometry and acceptance basis, followed by release of the reclaimed formation and completion of the quay and berth systems. Terminal equipment, software, power, road interfaces, pilotage, towage, navigation aids, ISPS, customs and trained operations must then converge in integrated trials. The 2028 target becomes an operating date only when those interfaces support repeat commercial calls.
