Yorkeys Knob opened in September 2023 with a six-lane ramp, three floating walkways, two rock breakwaters, dredged basin, access channel and reclaimed landside platform. Hall Contracting delivered the integrated workfront and reports approximately 20,000 m3 of dredging. Queensland gives AUD 22.4 million as the total project cost; its TMR contract disclosure lists AUD 18,739,439 for Hall contract CN-15409. Those figures describe the programme and prime contract respectively.

One workfront joined marine access and landside capacity

Completed small harbours are commercially valuable when the delivery boundary remains visible. Yorkeys Knob links dredging to reuse, reuse to reclamation, reclamation to parking and ramp levels, and breakwaters to basin operability. Its ownership model also changes who buys future work: Maritime Safety Queensland owns the in-water infrastructure, while Cairns Regional Council manages the public facility.

The interface chain defines the delivery benchmark

Hall dredged Half Moon Bay material to form the basin and access channel, then reused it in the platform supporting 135 car-trailer bays and 63 car spaces. Two armour breakwaters protect the launch area, and floating walkways connect users to six ramp lanes. Future signals should be maintenance-specific: bathymetric surveys, channel infill, armour displacement, walkway defects, ramp condition and owner-funded renewal, not continuation of the original build.
