Ocean City and Peck Beach 2026 Periodic Nourishment
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District awarded Great Lakes Dredge & Dock a USD 19.5 million contract for periodic nourishment of the Great Egg Harbor and Peck Beach coastal storm risk management project at Ocean City, New Jersey. The contract calls for dredging, pumping and placing more than 1.6 million cubic yards of sand from an offshore borrow area, then grading it into an elevated beach berm between 12th Street and the Seaview Road groin area. USACE records construction as beginning on 7 July 2026 and the dredge Illinois as mobilised at the 10 July field-status boundary. The formal programme record traces the protection system to a 1991 partnership agreement and 1992 initial construction, while the City records the separate 2022-23 cycle as complete with 1.5 million cubic yards of beachfill and a 47,600-cubic-yard stockpile. Those historical quantities do not measure the current contract. The current evidence establishes an active marine works package, but not the quantity already placed, conformity with the design template, completion by the forecast early-September date or acceptance of the finished protection system.
