USACE Detroit District's 2026 St. Joseph Harbor campaign combines a bounded federal-channel maintenance contract with an ERDC field experiment measuring turbidity, bathymetry, sediment movement, and shoreline response. Viking Marine Construction is scheduled to hydraulically dredge about 83,000 cubic yards and pump the material to a perpendicular nearshore placement about half a mile south of the harbor.

USACE announced the 2026 dredging and research campaign

Viking Marine was due to dredge about 83,000 cubic yards and pump it to a perpendicular nearshore placement south of the harbor. The release set the July-August work plan and monitoring method; final volumes, channel condition, and shoreline response still need field results.

The 2025 campaign set the baseline for two-season monitoring

USACE paired a smaller, roughly 22,000-cubic-yard outer-harbor campaign with ERDC monitoring planned across 2025 and 2026. That earlier along-shore placement is the comparison case for the new perpendicular geometry; it is not evidence of the 2026 contractor's output.
