Entry authority
The submitter must identify the organization or person represented, their relationship to the work, and their authority to provide the material.
Recognition framework
Rules and eligibility
These rules govern the inaugural IMWO Recognition programme. They define what can be entered, who may submit, and the minimum conditions for assessment. A dated call activates them for the categories it names and states the opening date, closing time, and submission route.
Eligible subjects
A call may accept a project, programme, asset, engineering contribution, operating improvement, technical method, dataset, or documented body of professional knowledge within the published marine works scope. The principal contribution must be complete enough for outcomes to be assessed; an announcement, appointment, design intention, or construction start is not sufficient by itself.

Owners, designers, contractors, specialists, suppliers, operators, and public bodies must be credited only for the contribution supported by the evidence.
Assessable maturity
The work must have an accepted configuration, completed output, operating period, or applied knowledge record sufficient to test its stated achievement.
Rights and consent
The submitter must have the right to share the entry material and must identify any restrictions on images, documents, names, or commercially sensitive information.
Category fit
One lead category must be selected. IMWO may move an eligible entry to a more appropriate category before scoring and will record the reason.
Evidence completeness
An entry must satisfy the public evidence standard. Unsupported superlatives, promotional reach, and paid visibility do not establish eligibility or merit.
Entry record
Minimum information
A dated call may request category-specific evidence, but it cannot reduce these common identity and accountability requirements.
- Identity
- Formal name, location, owner or commissioning body, and the exact work being entered.
- Contribution
- The people and organizations responsible for the claimed achievement, with boundaries between roles.
- Time basis
- Relevant design, delivery, acceptance, operating, or publication dates.
- Claim set
- A concise statement of the achievement and each measurable outcome relied upon.
- Evidence map
- A source or record for every material claim, including limitations and unresolved points.
- Publication permission
- The material that may be cited publicly and any item supplied only for confidential assessment.
Owner or operator
An owner, public authority, developer, concessionaire, or operator may enter its own work or a defined contribution made by a delivery party.
Delivery or technical party
A designer, contractor, specialist, supplier, researcher, or joint team may enter a contribution it made, provided the affected parties are identified and attribution can be checked.
Third-party nominator
A professional body, client representative, academic, or other informed party may nominate work with the nominee's consent and a stated basis for first-hand knowledge.
Nomination package
A complete entry states the achievement, evidence and limitations.
The dated call will set file formats and length limits. Every call must retain the same substantive package.
- Category statement
- The selected category, exact subject, assessment point, and reason this is the principal contribution.
- Case statement
- A concise account organized around the five criteria published for the selected category, with actual results separated from forecasts and intentions.
- Contribution schedule
- Named owners, designers, contractors, specialists, suppliers, operators, researchers, and public bodies, with each role and claim boundary stated.
- Outcome schedule
- Each result with its unit, baseline, period or event, denominator, exclusions, measurement responsibility, and present status.
- Evidence index
- Every material claim mapped to a dated source, record owner, evidence type, access route, and publication permission.
- Proposed citation
- A short, factual description of the contribution that could be published without implying certification of unassessed work.
- Supporting material
- Relevant drawings, plans, photographs, tables, reports, references, and media with captions, dates, provenance, and reuse rights.
- Declarations
- Authority to enter, consent, conflicts, commercial relationships, disputes, incidents, corrections, confidentiality, and known evidence gaps.
Partial involvement must be explicit.
An entrant does not need to have delivered the whole project. It must state the extent and duration of its involvement, the interfaces controlled by others, and the outcome attributable to its own work. Where a result relies on predicted benefits, the entry must show which benefits have since been measured and which remain prospective.
Evidence standardIneligible or incomplete entries
IMWO may decline an entry that falls outside the stated scope, lacks authority, cannot be assessed from the submitted record, materially misstates attribution, or does not permit a defensible public citation. A decision not to assess is not a finding about the quality of the underlying work.
