Thessaloniki Port Authority awarded the current Pier 6 construction contract to a METKA-TEKAL joint venture for EUR 195.6 million and a 40-month programme. The works extend the pier by at least 513 metres, widen it by 306.5 metres, deepen the navigation and manoeuvring areas and install 21 caissons. ThPA reported the first caisson installed in July 2026, making construction visible without establishing quay or dredging completion.

Client / authority
ThPA S.A. - Thessaloniki Port Authority, port owner, operator and project employer
Delivery parties
METKA S.A. - 70% joint-venture participant and current Pier 6 construction contractor, TEKAL S.A. - 30% joint-venture participant and current Pier 6 construction contractor, ThPA Pier 6 Project Division - owner-side technical, contract, claim and environmental monitoring coordination, Rogan Associates and Hill International - historical engineering-study and supervision appointment from 2019; current 2026 role not independently reconfirmed, No reviewed primary source names current dredging, caisson fabrication, piling, reclamation, concrete, plant or marine-logistics subcontractors
Contract route
ThPA signed a 40-month construction-works contract with METKA S.A.-TEKAL S.A. (PIER 6) J/V on 19 November 2025. METLEN discloses a 70:30 joint-venture split. The earlier 2022 award to a Mytilineos-Rover Maritime-HDK consortium is historical and is not the current contract chain.
Execution window
The signed programme is 40 months from the November 2025 contract. ThPA published the first-caisson installation on 10 July 2026 and said the second caisson was already under construction. No revised completion date or accepted partial-handover sequence has been published.
Works package
Extend Pier 6 by at least 513 metres and 306.5 metres in width, create a final quay wall stated by ThPA as 1,081 metres, deepen the quay from 12.6 to 16.8 metres, dredge the navigation channel and manoeuvring area to the tender basis of at least -17.60 metres MSL, and deliver pavements, utilities and networks for a larger container terminal.
Marine interfaces
Twenty-one caissons form the new quay edge while navigation-channel and manoeuvring-area dredging must establish access for larger vessels. Caisson placement, backfill, quay structures, dredging, utilities and terminal readiness require separate survey, environmental and owner acceptance before the projected 24,000-TEU vessel capability can be treated as available.
Commercial evidence boundary
The controlling contractor, joint-venture split, contract value, core geometry and first visible marine milestone are public. The downstream subcontract chain, dredging quantity and plant, caisson fabrication parties, sediment destination, payment progress, as-built depth and acceptance documentation are not public.

Material developments
Dated events that changed scope, counterparties, delivery, commissioning or operating status.
ThPA published the first visible marine-construction milestone and said the second caisson was under construction, without reporting dredging or quay completion.
The EUR 195.6 million, 40-month contract replaced the earlier award chain as the controlling public delivery record for current construction attribution.
