DP World is expanding London Gateway with two additional all-electric berths. McLaughlin & Harvey is the confirmed contractor for the fifth-berth quay works, where Port of London Authority notices trace a 430-metre extension, steel tubular piling and named marine plant. Gobion separately reports a GBP 52 million contract for ten automated-stacking-crane yard modules. Contract route
DP World is funding a wider GBP 1 billion two-berth expansion. McLaughlin & Harvey is delivering the marine quay works for Berth 5. An official Find a Tender notice separately described the automated yard as a ten-module civil and electrical package with an estimated GBP 60 million value; Gobion later reported securing that package for GBP 52 million.
Execution window
DP World announced construction from May 2025 within a four-year two-berth programme. Marine piling was expected from August 2025 for about 18 months. The PLA stated on 1 August 2026 that the 430-metre Berth 5 extension was complete while a further 75 metres of retaining-wall piling continued into the Berth 6 formation. Gobion reports its yard programme running from late March 2026 to March 2027.
Works package
Extend the quay for Berth 5 and deliver a separate automated container yard with ten ASC modules, heavy-duty pavement, ASC rails and foundations, reefer and container plinths, drainage, utilities, substations, 11kV distribution, SCADA and live-terminal tie-ins. The wider DP World programme adds two 400-metre all-electric berths and a second rail terminal.
Marine interfaces
The tubular-pile quay and retaining wall must be released into a separate yard, crane, power, automation and operating-terminal integration sequence. PLA notices establish the marine geometry and plant window; they do not evidence yard acceptance, crane commissioning, terminal operating-system readiness or commercial service.
Commercial evidence boundary
The top-tier marine and yard packages are visible, but the interface ledger below them remains incomplete. The strongest current milestone is physical completion of the 430-metre Berth 5 extension. The yard award value is supplier-reported, while integrated handover and a Berth 5 opening date remain unconfirmed.
